Creates and strengthens the human-animal bond through life-saving and compassionate care for pets and the people who love them. Organization has three locations in NYC, Wantagh, and Westhampton and places thousands of dogs, cats, puppies and kittens in loving homes every year. At the Westhampton location children aged 10-15 can volunteer as a “shadow team” with an adult relative who are also volunteers. During the school year, they run a teen group (ages 12-17) who meet every week and help socialize with cats and dogs and clean the kennels/cat rooms!

Canine Companions for Independence

Canine Companions provides service dogs to adults, children, and veterans with disabilities, as well as facility dogs to professionals working in healthcare, criminal justice, and educational settings free-of-charge. The Junior Ambassador Committee is a group of young people who educate and advocate for service dog rights, as well as help plan and participate in outreach events.
